Cindy lives in a city in the Midwest where ramp meters are used. Our city has used ramp meters for three years now. They've made a big difference! It used to take me about 40 minutes to cross the city to get to work. It's only 15 miles, but the freeways were jammed with people coming in from the suburbs. Even the weekends were bad because people come to the city to shop at the mall or attend sporting events. The freeway became so congested that I would stick to the city roads and avoid the freeway. But once they put the ramp meters in, my commute fell to about 25 minutes. Unfortunately, they're turned off on the weekends; I'd like to see that change. I'd urge every city to look into ramp meters. They really work! Carl has recently moved to a city in the Northwest where ramp meters are being considered. I say no to ramp meters! I used to live in a city where ramp meters were used. I hated them. Every day on my way home from work I'd have to sit in a long line on the ramp, even though there was hardly any traffic on the freeway. The ramp meter added between 18 and 20 minutes a day to my commute. If you hold a driver's license, then you should know how to merge onto a freeway; responsible adults don't need to be herded on and off freeway ramps. Which argument in the passage best supports the claim?A. Carl supports his claim better because he states that the ramps added 18 to 20 minutes to his drive time. B. Both claims are supported well because they rely on facts. C.Cindy supports her claim better because she states that the ramps helped reduce her travel time to only 20 minutes. D.Neither claim is supported well because both Carl and Cindy rely on personal experience rather than facts.

What caused the american civil war? there were many reasons for a civil war to happen in america, and political issues and disagreements began soon after the american revolution ended in 1782. between the years 1800 and 1860, arguments between the north and south grew more intense. one of the main quarrels was about taxes paid on goods brought into this country from foreign countries. this tax was called a tariff. southerners felt these tariffs were unfair and aimed toward them because they imported a wider variety of goods than most northern people. taxes were also placed on many southern goods that were shipped to foreign countries, an expense that was not always applied to northern goods of equal value. an awkward economic structure allowed states and private transportation companies to do this, which also affected southern banks that found themselves paying higher interest rates on loans made with banks in the north. the situation grew worse after several “panics,” including one in 1857 that affected more northern banks than southern. southern financiers found themselves burdened with high payments just to save northern banks that had suffered financial losses through poor investment. which sentence from the selection states a major detail that supports the main idea? a there were many reasons for a civil war to happen in america, and political issues and disagreements began soon after the american revolution ended in 1782. b taxes were also placed on many southern goods that were shipped to foreign countries, an expense that was not always applied to northern goods of equal value. c the situation grew worse after several "panics," including one in 1857 that affected more northern banks than southern. d this tax was called a tariff. e between the years 1800 and 1860, arguments between the north and south grew more intense.
