In “The Last Class: The Story of a Little Alsatian”, Hamel is a French teacher who, although successful in his job, feels that he is only giving a useless talent to his students.  In “Behind the Native  American Achievement Gap,” Truer argues that the boarding schools created by the government do not adequately preserve the Native American culture.
