In May of 2017 Florida Governor Rick Scott declared the opioid epidemic a public heath emergency. In doing so over $54 million dollars will become available to establish services for prevention, treatment, and recovery. In 2015, opioids were responsible for deaths of 3,896 Floridians, 12% of the national opioid deaths. This is a significant increase from the 2,634 and 2,474 opioid related deaths in Florida in 2014 and 2013 respectively.
