How and why does Mary Shelley show that Victor has a lot of privilege?

Frankenstein begins his story, prudently, with his childhood: he comes from a rich and respected Swiss family. Her parents met, she tells us, when her father went looking for an old and dear friend. This man, named Beaufort, had fallen into poverty and darkness: when Frankenstein Sr. finally found him, he was completely miserable and very close to death. His daughter, Caroline, attended to him with almost religious devotion. After Beaufort's death, Caroline turned to Master Frankenstein for comfort, and the two returned to Geneva together. A few years later, they were married.

During the first years of their marriage, the Frankensteins traveled constantly, for the sake of Caroline's fragile health. They divided their time between Germany, Italy, and France. Their first child, Victor, was born in Naples, Italy. Victor's parents adored him, and he loved them. His childhood was completely idyllic from the beginning. Victor was an only child until he was five years old, and he and his parents strongly felt the absence of other children.

Caroline Frankenstein had a habit of visiting the poor: since she herself had been saved from poverty, she felt it was her duty to improve the lot of those who did not share her good fortune. One day, he discovered an angelic girl, with white skin and golden hair, who lived with an impoverished Italian family. Since the girl was an orphan, and her adoptive family lacked the means to care for her, the Frankensteins decided to raise her as their own. The girl, whose name was Elizabeth Lavenza, became Victor's sister and faithful companion, as well as the object of her unconditional worship. She is your most valuable and beautiful possession.

Read the following short excerpt of student writing. use your vocabulary and grammar knowledge to determine which suggestions you would make to improve his or her grammar and word choice. i really thought she loved me but i discovered her grave betrayal one afternoon. it was easy to figure out because she accidentally sent a text to me that was meant for him. i was confused by the text because it said, "don't tell mike." i felt insulted that she thought she could get away with this infidelity. at first i felt very angry bitter and hateful but then i felt so hopeless and depressed. i longed for her to call me. i thought if i could just hear her pleasing voice, maybe then i would not be filled with such bitterness. instead of calling her i talked to another friend who is good at listening and feeling my pain. talking with her makes me feel euphoric. i think i may be on the road to recovery.what word would you suggest to replace the underlined word or words in this excerpt? instead of calling her, i talked to another friend who is (good at listening and feeling my pain). talking with her makes me feel euphoric. amorous sentimental empathetic grave
