John looked outside. It was raining. No surprise. It always rained on days when he had to wait for the school bus outside.
"You're lucky," he said to his mother. "You don't know what it's like to get up on these cold, wet mornings to go someplace you don't like."
"Yes I do," his mother said. "You tell me every morning. Now get ready for school. You're going to be late."
John put on his clothes. The sweater was woolen and itchy. His raincoat felt heavy and cumbersome. He walked outside to the bus stop. He felt soggy, depressed, and miserable.
A passing car drove by, splashing mud onto John's clothes, soaking him to the bone. John realized that his homework and books were ruined when the water hit his backpack.
John sighed. What else could go wrong today?
