ONE-PAGER
READING ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT
Description: A one-pager is a single-page response to a reading assignment. It
provides an opportunity to be both brief and creative in illustrating your grasp of a
particular reading
Purpose: The purpose of a one-pager is to allow you to learn by creating your own
images, patterns, and questions relating to a particular chapter, essay, or article.
Studies have shown that people read differently when they know that they must do
something with the reading. By actively reading and creating a one-pager, you will
better understand the main idea within a reading assignment.
Connections: A one-pager connects the verbal and the visual. It connects the
writing's thoughts to your thoughts. It connects words and images. There is not "right"
way to do it! Be creative and analyze the text YOUR way!
Directions:
1. Use unlined plain white paper provided by your teacher.
2. Pull out three meaningful quotations, from Chapters 1 and 2, and write it on the paper.
Each quote should have meaning and connection to something important from the novel/theme.
Cite the quote in MLA format.
3. Create a visual image or images. You can either draw une image or several to illustrate
events or things that happened in the two chapters. You can include important words or
concepts to go with the images.
4. Make a personal statement about what you have read. This could be related to different
issues you have seen in Winston's world. What examples of any of these issues could you
identify in our society? Did the author leave something out that you think should have been
addressed in the reading? The personal statement could also simply be something you found
particularly interesting. THIS MUST BE AT LEAST THREE COMPLETE SENTENCES
5. Create two level 2 or 3 questions and answer them. DO NOT ask questions that require a
one-word answer (e. g. In what year did George Washington die?), or are surface level reading
questions (e. g. What did the dark-haired girl give Winston?). Your questions and answers must
be in at least three complete sentences.
6. Create the one-pager in such a way that your audience will understand something of your
thinking about what you have read.
7. Your one-pager should be "WALL WORTHY" by including color (pens, markers, and/or
pencils are acceptable).

Read sentence 13 from the draft. some plants retain a great deal of their foliage through much of the spring and summer, but the leaves do not retain their green color for long. which detail would be best to add after sentence 13 to develop the topic? a. since the green color of the leaves that are bright and abundant during the warmer months will disappear by the time it is fall, it is important that the leaves are trimmed and kept freshly cut so that they will last for as long as possible. b. while the temperature outside may dictate when the fall colors of leaves appear, it is only one of many environmental factors that play a part in the changing of colors from green leaves to fall-colored leaves during the cooler months. c. if people want to enjoy the green color of leaves longer, trees should be planted where the environment is warmer and the days longer because chlorophyll in the leaves can only be manufactured and replaced with sunlight and warmth. d. the green chlorophyll normally masks the fall-colored pigments during the warmer months, but as sunlight becomes less abundant and trees become frozen, the fall colors of leaves become more visible as chlorophyll disappears.

She took up a scalpel and slit the monkey's abdomen, making a slow and gentle cut, keeping the blade well away from her gloved fingers. the spleen was puffed up and tough, leathery, like a globe of smoked salami. she did not see any bloody lesions inside this monkey. she had expected that the monkey's interior would be a lake of blood, but no, this monkey looked all right, it had not bled into itself. if the animal had died of ebola, this was not a clear case. she opened up the intestine. there was no blood inside it. the gut looked okay. then she examined the stomach. there she found a ring of bleeding spots at the junction between the stomach and the small intestine. this could be a sign of ebola, but it was not a clear sign. it could also be a sign of simian fever, not ebola. therefore, she could not confirm the presence of ebola virus in this animal based on a visual inspection of the internal organs during necropsy.
