In The Exeter Book, the poems we read focused on the average person and the struggles they faced in daily life. Based on that idea, choose one of the poems (The Seafarer, The Wife’s Lament, or The Wanderer) and discuss two things in two short paragraphs (4-7 sentences). First, what is the main theme of the poem? Second, how is that idea discussed in relation to that specific speaker in the poem? In order to accurately answer this question, you will need to include evidence from the poem in the form of direct quotes, and analysis of the theme of the poem.
