The last line of the chapter gives a sense of foreboding to the reader because, clearly, something dark and nefarious is going to happen this evening. Look back over the chapter and write down another line of text or paraphrase a plot element that contributes to this foreshadowing of something bad to come.

"Oh nothing, nothing," she said, "somebody just walked over my grave."

Explanation:

In the story, both Atticus and Aunt Alexandra were tired to attend the Halloween pageant: Atticus had already been in Montgomery for a week, and Alexandra had been helping out with the decorating all day. Just as she was finishing her excuse for not going, she stopped in the middle of her sentence. She tried to continue, but no words came out. When Scout asked what was wrong, Alexandra said, "Oh nothing, nothing... somebody just walked over my grave." It was an intuition that something evil, or deadly, was about to happen.
