Writing A Funeral Speech
Do you think Caesar was a terrible leader of Rome who deserved to die? Or do you think that Caesar did a fine job leading his country, and was betrayed by his friends? Pick a character who would agree with your opinion.
You will pretend you are that character and write Caesar a funeral speech. If the character loved Caesar, really explain what Caesar did that made him adored, why he was a great Roman, and leader. If your character hated Caesar, insult him, tell why you’re glad he’s gone, and how he ruined Rome. A funeral speech is an emotional thing, so you can also talk about your character’s relationship with Caesar or their personal feelings about Caesar. Use your knowledge of the play and your creative mind. Your funeral speech does NOT have to be written in iambic pentameter or Shakespearean English - you can write in modern English for this assignment. Please write at least 5 sentences.

My funeral speech:

I enjoy Latin and the Study of Rome through the 2nd Century A.D. Caius Iulius Cæsar was a brilliant tactician and a Great Roman. I understand why he “had to go”, but Rome would have likely been better off with him than to allow his assassination. He broke TWO important rules one was simply Not allowed to break; he crossed the Rubicon, entering Rome with his armies, or much of it all; that was not allowed; Sulla, in 79-80B.C. Did the same and was punished “severely”, losing everything. Sulla was afraid of Cæsar even when he was still a boy! He was a threat.

The SECOND thing that just wasn’t done, was to be declared DIVI, or to be “Divine, a Living God”. That Was likely worse than Coming armed into Rome, at least according to the people of Rome.

Explanation:

wordsworth tends to see nature as 'out there'; a presence which surrounds humans, and contributes to human life, but is different from humans. if you look at a typical wordsworth poem (there was a boy, ye knew him well ye rocks) - wordsworth talks about nature as something that needs to be learned about and understood, nature is different from us.  

if you look at a byron poem (the isles of greece is a good one) - byron looks at nature mainly for what it already means to man. wordsworth will look at a landscape and see the mountains, trees, valleys, and rivers as almost spiritual presences - wordsworth wants to get to know nature.  

byron will look at the same landscape and he will want to know who lives there, what are the villages? are there any farms or mines, is there some history?  

wordsworth looks at nature for what it is; byron is forever asking what it means.  

wordsworth thinks that humans are part of nature; byron thinks that nature is part of being human
