The protagonist's main idea is to be able to express herself as the American as she lives in the United States of America. "When I was done, I read over my words, and my eyes filled. I finally sounded like myself in English!". She is also interested in identifying the ancestral connections and roots which she had shared. She had felt strong connections toward her mother.
