If we consider writing in the rules of English Grammar, a sentence is a perfectly arranged sequence of words that impart a particular meaning. For example, if we consider a sentence like, “The cat chased the dog.” In this sentence, the dog is what, and it is chasing the cat, which forms the who component of the sentence. The set of words within the sentence should conveying some meaning to the reader, who is subject to knowledge and information. A sentence may consist of parts, which are also called clauses. Sentences need to contain parts of speech, which are comprised of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, conjunctions or interjections, etc. Thus, we can say that all parts within a sentence have to be grammatically linked. A sentence can be considered as a complete phrase, but a phrase cannot be called as a sentence, as they do not follow a sequential pattern.

In this part, I shall talk about the various types of sentences. They are usually of six types- Affirmative, Assertive, Negative, Interrogative, Interjective and Imperative types. These sentences are distinguishable by their grammatical structure, and the meaning they impart. For example, Interrogative sentences usually begin with letters containing ‘Wh’ such as What, Where, When, or with words, How, etc. The most important characteristic is that all Interrogative sentences contain a question mark. Similarly, an interjective sentence contains an exclamation mark. As mentioned above, Sentences also contain a clause, which is called the Main clause and a subordinate clause. This can also be called as the Subject and Predicate.
