He heard a noise outside and saw that George was outside in his car, waiting for Tom. Tom reached for his jacket.

"I have to go," he said.

"But you haven't eaten," said Tom's mother.

"I'm late!" Tom said. Tom went out the door and went to George's car. His mother watched as the car went away, and then she cleared off the table.
