The state of Hawaii 1are made up of a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean. There are eight main islands and many smaller ones. All of these islands were formed by underwater volcanoes 2that sent hot melted rock, known as lava, flowing into the sea. 3This lava formed, as it cooled, large mountains. The tops of these mountains became the islands of Hawaii. 4Today these islands have many volcanoes. Most of the volcanoes found across Hawaii are no longer erupting, or sending out melted rock. Only two of Hawaii's 5volcanos are still active. They are called Mauna Loa and Kilauea. Both are found on 6the bigger Hawaiian island, which is also called Hawaii. They are two of the most well-known volcanoes in the world. Mauna Loa is a large volcano that covers about half of the island of Hawaii. Its name means "long mountain." It stands nearly 14,000 feet above sea level. Because its large size pushes down on the sea floor around the island, Mauna Loa's full height is about 56,000 feet. This makes Mauna Loa taller than Mount Everest 7and a much bigger mountain than most of the tall mountains in the world! Mauna Loa has erupted thirty-three times since 1843. The last time it erupted was in 1984. 8Scientists continue to watch Mauna Loa for signs of coming eruptions. Kilauea is the most active volcano in the world. Its name means "much spreading." Early Hawaiians believed that Kilauea was the home of a volcano god named Pele. They thought that Kilauea's many eruptions were a sign that Pele was angry. Kilauea's regular eruptions can cause many problems. One eruption in 1955 lasted for eighty-eight days and damaged many crops. It also caused a few earthquakes. The lava that flows out of volcanoes such as Kilauea during an eruption can destroy anything in its path. Which change, if any, is necessary?

A) NO CHANGE
