(10) even if an animal that has been bitten by a komodo dragon manages to escape, it will soon die from the lizardâs poisonous bite.

(14) with their sharp claws, they dig deep burrows in which to sleep and to lay their eggs. (15) also, komodo dragons can live from 20 to 50 years.
(16) unfortunately, the komodo dragon is endangered. (17) there are only about 3,000 to 5,000 of these lizards in existence. (18) the number of komodo dragons in the wild has steadily decreased for various reasons. (19) their population has been affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes and fires, illegal hunting by poachers, and an increase in tourism to the indonesian islands where they live. (20) all of the komodo dragons in the world, except those in captivity, lived within a few thousand miles. (21) they are found only on five islands, including komodo, rinca, and flores. (22) in 1980, komodo national park was established to protect these unique creatures.
(23) interestingly, there may be a link between komodo dragons and the dragons of myth and legend. (24) not only are komodo dragons huge, meat-eating lizards, but they also have long, forked, yellow tongues. (25) when they stick them out, some people say it looks like they are spitting fire!
