Internal conflict occurs when Keesh stormed out of the council and decided to prove his claim for everyone to see.

External conflict is when he battles the wind, the snow, the bears and also when he was complaining to the council about their poor state of living and the meat they were assigned.

Explanation:

In "The Story of Keesh" by Jack London, the protagonist of the story Keesh was just a young orphaned boy who lived with her mother. They resided in the meanest igloo and got the worse share of the meat in the community. But through it all, he rose from it and became the most respected and headman of his village.

The internal conflict is when a character have some dilemma within himself. In this story, the internal conflict happens when Keesh had complained to the council about the meat he got. Seething with anger, he knows what to say and knew he deserved to be treated better, for his father had been a great hunter, providing meat fairly for everyone. But when the other men refused to listen and take his claims seriously, he went out of the council, "Keesh's eyes began to flash, and the blood to pound darkly under his skin".

External conflict can be between man and another man or nature or anyone else. There are lots of instances where there is an external conflict in the story. Keesh against the councilmen, or Keesh against the bears he hunted, or Keesh struggling against the cold and wintery, snowy climate to hunt etc.
