Write annotations and a short introduction for a poem from this lesson. your annotations and introduction will look at how the aesthetic impact of the poem is affected by tone, figurative language, and other elements.
your assignment should include the following elements:
6 – 12 annotations that the reader understand one of the poems from the lesson
annotations that describe the poet's use of tone, diction, and word choice
annotations that explain the meaning of the symbolism, themes, connotations, and figurative language in the poem
a paragraph that examines the overall meaning of the poem, supported by examples
you should have completed a draft of this assignment in the activity before this one. if you haven't done so, go back and complete that activity now.

ask yourself these questions as you revise:
did i connect my annotations directly to the text of the poem?
did i focus each annotation on poetic devices?
did i explain β€” in both my annotations and my introduction β€” how the poetic devices affected the aesthetic impact?

This excerpt is from β€œthe poet” by alfred, lord tennyson. the poem describes a poet's consciousness and perception. which three lines suggest the richness of a poet's thoughts? thus truth was multiplied on truth, [the world like one great garden show'd,] and thro' the wreaths of floating dark upcurl'd, rare sunrise flow'd. [and freedom rear'd in that august sunrise] her beautiful bold brow, when rites and forms before his burning eyes melted like snow. [there was no blood upon her maiden robes] sunn'd by those orient skies; but round about the circles of the globes of her keen eyes and in her raiment's hem was traced in flame wisdom, a name to shake [all evil dreams of power--a sacred name.] and when she spake, [her words did gather thunder as they ran,] and as the lightning to the thunder which follows it, riving the spirit of man, making earth wonder, so was their meaning to her words. no sword of wrath her right arm whirl'd, [ but one poor poet's scroll, and with 'his' word] she shook the world.
