Compose a one-paragraph persuasive message board post about grendel. your post will respond to
another argument that you disagree with. (see the four options below.) use evidence from grendel to
craft a fair and well-supported rebuttal, and then complete two other short responses to your
classmates' posts. if you are completing this activity without an online message board, see question 10
of the writing guide for alternate directions.
your assignment should include the following elements:
• a one-paragraph rebuttal to one of four message posts that have been provided for you
• a claim that directly goes against the post you've chosen to respond to
• a two-to three-sentence response to one of your classmates' message board posts
• a final two-to three-sentence post that responds to the board in general
you should have completed a draft of this assignment in the activity before this one. if you haven't do
so, go back and complete that activity now.

The greatest gift the sumerians gave the world was the invention of writing. the sumerians were wealthy people. they needed some way to keep track of what they owned. they began drawing pictures. they used a reed as a pen. they drew on soft pieces of clay. the soft clay was then dried in the sun. the tablet became a permanent record. later, the sumerian drawings changed into wedge-shaped symbols. this kind of writing is called cuneiform. by putting symbols together, the sumerians could write entire sentences.
