Huck speaks of the feud
the raft in this story symbolizes freedom and safety for huck and jim. no danger approaches them on the raft, but every time they come to shore, danger appears.
at first, huck could not tell jim what had happened while he was with the grangerfords, but as they traveled down the mississippi river on the raft, huck relaxed and told jim his story.
assignment: you are huck finn. tell jim what happened while you were with the grangerfords in chapter 18. explain to him how the deaths, due to the fighting, affected you. your account of the feud should be at least ten sentences and include details from the "the grangerfords and the shepherdsons." try to capture huck's emotion as he tells his story to jim. your account can be in a colloquial dialect (that is how huck and jim speak) or you may choose to use standard english.
