Why would the introduction of christianity to the igbo people create conflict? the villagers believed in three levels of divine beings and the christians only believed in one supreme being. the british did not think religion should emphasize the spirits of dead people. some villagers became christian and others did not, so the villagers were no longer unified by long-established customs. the igbo gods were mainly manifestations of nature.
