A way to always know and remember the author's purpose is to never forget what the acronym, ''Pie,'' stands for. This is because every other reason for which he writes is grouped under this acronym. 'P' means persuasion. 'I' represents information while 'E' stands for entertainment.

The first main type of the author's purpose of writing is 'persuasion'. When a text is written and the author effuses past testimonies, evidence or reasons, thereby getting you convinced or agree to his point of view, that is a persuasive write-up. Having seen one or all of these in the book or write-up, you should know the author's purpose is to persuade.

The second type of Author’s purpose is 'Information'. An author is informational when he goes social; his write-ups are usually seen in the informational texts like Magazines, newspapers, and social media. In this category, he will inform the reader about a particular topic but the readers will have to pay attention to the header, rhetoric, or the effective use of language.

The third category of the Author's purpose is 'entertainment'. All forms of write-ups that make one laugh show that the author's purpose is comedy.
