Cousin is not helpful.  And by choosing not to help, it is promised that no help will come to him.

Everyone needs help from time to time.  While this person is in need, it is implied that Cousin is not helpful, for if he/she chooses not to help, he/she needs to know that by making this decision, no help will come to him when he needs it most.

    Everyman is an anonymous play in which the main character Everyman represents all of humanity. God orders Death to visit him to show him his journey towards death. This is a tale of a dying man, who seeks comfort along that journey but that means that person will also die.

    Cousin is one of them. He enters in the play along with Kindred.  Everyman turns to them thinking family ties are strong and will help him no matter what. Cousin and Kindred say they will be together in life and death. However, when Everyman explains the nature of his journey (that they will also die), Cousin excuses himself by saying he has a cramp in his toe. He refuses to accompany Everyman in his journey. He leaves him facing death alone.
