The poem My Last Duchess’ is a dramatic monologue written by Robert Browning.  The narrator is the Duke of Ferrara, a proud and cruel duke. He despised his young wife- the last Duchess for smiling at every person she met.

He was suspicious of her character and mistook her congenial nature for infidelity. He felt she showered every man she met with the same affection. So he points out at the blush of her cheek in her portrait to be a result of the attention she got from the other men.
