World population refers to the total number of humans currently alive. As of May 2018, it is estimated that 7.6 billion people populate our planet. It should be noted that, ever since the middle ages, during the Black Death episode which considerably decimated the population of the world, the number of humans alive has steadily experienced positive growth, especially in the last 200 years, which has seen an increase of 6 billion people in the world´s population.
