Banning cell phones

Cell phones have solved many immediate communication problems but have also  caused many communicative problems. Communication may be related to information that flows through a channel,  the cell phone ,  but it may not be related to the the desire to reach somebody else deeply: to send information in a communicative manner. As the problems outweigh the solutions, I claim that cell phones have to be banned.

First, cell phones may ruin a romantic dinner. You have had a difficult day at work. You have been waiting all day long to meet your 'sweet-heart' for dinner. You have already booked a table at a 'romantic' restaurant. Now, you are there at the table waiting for your 'love' under the light of a candle. He / she gets into the restaurant, doing what? looking at his /her cell phone! As the place is a bit dark, he /she manages to reach the table but she /he has never stopped reading her /his cell phone messages. He /she does not greet you and the first thing he /she does is to ask the waiter to turn on the light; he /she cannot see the messages quite well. At that moment, you will  think about your idea of love. Can you go on dating someone who pays more attention to a cell phone  than to you on a special ocassion?

Second, cell phones may ruin a short trip on a mini-bus. This time you have decided to go on a week-end tour round a small seaside town. You have been waiting for this trip quite long. You get on the bus and get a seat by the window; you do not want to miss the view. You want to be quiet so you have already turned off your cell phone. You expect to go on a  silent trip, but some conversational tone invades your 'privacy'. A young man has sat by your side and he is talking on his cell phone. You do not want to sound impolite , so you do not ask him to stop talking immediately. However, you ask him to do so after you have heard him describing the views to his girlfriend for some time. You have even learnt that she could not come with him but wanted to be part of the trip. Finally, you decide to get off the bus and have some fun at a café by the road. What should you do if the man tells that cell phones are not banned on mini-buses?

Third, cell phones may make ordinary people waste a lot of time in public offices. If you have to go to a public office, such as the Town Hall, you may come across a civil servant and his /her cell phone. You will probably have to queue for hours before you can reach the desk. The desk will be the correct one but the civil servant sat at it will not have the correct communicative attitude. He / she will listen to your problem but at the same time he /she will look at his /her cell phone. As a result of this attitude, he /she will understand your problem partly and you will have to come back to the office on another day. Your problem will certainly be misunderstood and reported in the wrong way.

To sum up, cell phones have to be banned because they may cause  many problems. Your romantic life can finish ; your free time can turn into hell and your civil life can become a waste of time. You can use your cell phone , then, to tell your "love" that you do not want to see him/her again; to tell the bus company to ban cell phones , and to tell the mayor to do something about the civil servant. However, you know that you have not been able to reach anyone deeply and that the others have not been able to do so either.
