In elie wiesel's night, before the jews of sighet are deported to concentration camps, they are forced to move into a ghetto that the germans have built. why do some of the jews think the move will be an improvement? they have heard rumors that they will later be moved from the ghetto to a new colony in palestine. the ghetto will be administered by a jewish council and police. most of them are unworldly people who do not understand what a ghetto is. their previous experience of ghettos, while unpleasant, has not been fatal.
