Read the sentence from chapter 6 of life on the mississippi. i knew that boats ran all night, but somehow i had never happened to reflect that somebody had to get up out of a warm bed to run them. how does the imagery of a warm bed contribute to the main idea of the chapter? it suggests that the narrator might have been very sheltered as a child. it suggests a contrast between the narrator’s living quarters and the boat. it supports the idea that the narrator was uncomfortable performing the job. it symbolizes leaving comforts behind to face the challenges of a working life.
