How does dantes justify his idea that god has allowed him to be the agent of his own retribution?

Retribution is the main subject in the Count of Monte Cristo and this exists in the character of Edmond Dantes. In the prison in Chateau d'If Edmond met Abbe Faria who told him that his imprisonment was unfair.
