R-134a enters a throttling valve as a saturated liquid at a pressure of 14 bar. The mass flow rate into the throttling valve is 2 kg/s. The R-134a leaves the throttling valve at 5 bar and then enters into a separator. Two streams exit the separator, one that is saturated vapor and one that is saturated liquid, both at a pressure of 5 bar. The separator is not insulated and is located in a high temperature environment, so the heat transfer rate to the separator is 30 kJ per kg of R-134a entering the separator. a. Determine the temperature and quality at the inlet and exit of the throttling valve and and at the inlet and exits of the separator.
b. Determine the mass flow rate of vapor from the separator.
c. Determine the mass flow rate of liquid from the separator.

Air is to be cooled in the evaporator section of a refrigerator by passing it over a bank of 0.8-cm-outer-diameter and 0.4-m-long tubes inside which the refrigerant is evaporating at -20°c. air approaches the tube bank in the normal direction at 0°c and 1 atm with a mean velocity of 4 m/s. the tubes are arranged in-line with longitudinal and transverse pitches of sl- st 1.5 cm. there are 30 rows in the flow direction with 15 tubes in each row. determine (a) the refrigeration capacity of this system and (b) pressure drop across the tube bank. evaluate the air properties at an assumed mean temperature of -5°c and 1 atm. is this a good assumption?
