An industrial plant discharges treated effluent into the New River. The effluent becomes instantaneously and completely mixed with the New River and the BOD of the mixture is 24 mg/L, the DO is 5.5 mg/L, and the saturated DO is 9.2 mg/L. The deoxygenation rate coefficient (kd) is 0.24/day and the reaeration rate coefficient (kr) is 0.71/day (both already corrected for temperature). The river is moving with a velocity of 1 m/s and a flow of 18 m3/s. The minimum DO occurs 133 km downstream of the industrial plant effluent discharge. Find the minimum downstream DO in mg/L.

For the closed feedwater heater below, feedwater enters state 3 at a pressure of 2000 psia and temperature of 420 °f at a rate of ix10 ibhr. the feedwat extracted steam enters state 1 at a pressure of 1000 psia and enthalpy of 1500 btu/lbm. the extracted er leaves at an enthalpy of 528.7 btu/lbm steam leaves as a saturated liquid. (16) a) determine the mass flow rate of the extraction steam used to heat the feedwater (10) b) determine the terminal temperature difference of the closed feedwater heater
