A stainless steel bone fixation plate has a fracture toughness of 75 MPa m and an elastic modulus of 190 GPa. A stress of 620 MPa was applied that caused the largest surface crack on the plate to grow by 48% and resulted in fast fracture of the device. Determine the value of the largest surface crack (in mm) on the plate prior to loading and subsequent catastrophic failure.
