The catalytic gas phase reaction A rightarrow B is to be carried out in a packed bed reactor under isothermal operation. The reactant is pure A with an inlet concentration of 1 g-mol/dm3, the entering pressure is 25 atm and the entering volumetric flow rate is 1 dm3/min. the first order reaction rate constant K, which is based on reactant A is 1 dm3/kg. cat. min. 1. Develop the chemical reaction engineering algorithm, - mole balance, rate laws stoichiometry and combine them together, finally solve the following using MATLAB
2. Study the effect of the pressure drop on the conversion for the first order reaction and plot conversion and pressure (p = P/Po) as a function of the weight of the packing material W. consider the pressure drop parameter a is between 0.05 - 0.2 /kg, also consider the maximum weight of the catalyst is 2 kg.

Acompressor compresses a gas, a pump compresses a liquid. for a given pressure ratio, why does it take more work to compress a gas in a compressor than a liquid in a pump? a)- for a given pressure ratio the average specific volume for a gas is much higher than the average specific volume for a liquid. b)- there is no difference. the only difference is the amount of heat generated (not work) c)- for a given pressure ratio the average volurge for a gas is much higher than the average volume for a liquid. d)-there is no difference
