PROJECT: PITCH A NEW ALTERNATIVE ENERGY PLANT TO A COMMUNITY In this lesson, you learned how energy from wind farms and biomass resources can be used to power technology. Both sources require a lot of open land, and have many advantages and disadvantages associated with them. In this project, you will design and give a presentation that advocates for the construction of either a wind farm or a biomass farm. Your presentation will be addressed to the community in which you choose to build your farm. Your goal is to convince them to allow you to build your farm.

In this assignment, you will do the following:

Choose the type of alternative energy that you will advocate for. You may choose either a wind farm with an attached plant for generating electricity, or a biomass farm with an attached processing plant for generating biofuel.
Choose a location where your farm will be built. You must specify a state in the United States and the approximate location within that state. If you wish, you can choose an actual city or town within your location, or you can invent a hypothetical community.
Design a minimum of 10 slides that you will use in your presentation. The slides can be either created on separate pieces of 8.5" x 11" white paper, or they can be designed using computer software such as PowerPoint. The slides should address why the community was targeted, the science behind the technology, and the benefits to the community; they should also address any concerns that you anticipate the community will have. You don’t have to use references outside of this lesson, but you may do so if you wish. Be sure to cite any outside references on your slides.
Give a 15-minute oral presentation using your slides. Imagine that you are addressing the community in a town hall-style meeting and using your slides to illustrate your points. If you can’t give your presentation to your instructor in person, you may film your presentation.
To complete your assignment, submit the following:

If you wrote your slides on individual pieces of 8.5" x 11" paper, these should be submitted to the instructor. If you used computer software to create an electronic presentation, you may either submit a printout of each of the slides or the entire electronic file in a pdf file.
If your 15-minute presentation was given in person, this is your submission. If you filmed your presentation, submit it as either an electronic file or as a DVD.
