A Palm Spring golf course has requested a permit to install a 40000 ft2 pond to enhance the beauty of its facilities. Since the evaporation rates are very high in Palm Springs, it is likely they will need to pump a lot of groundwater to keep the pond full. The city has hired you (a water resources engineer) to determine how much water needs to be pumped per year in order to keep the pond filled. There is a small creek that discharges an average of 0.25 m3/s into the pond. The outlet valve from the pond releases an average rate of 0.30 m/s (to keep the pond from getting stagnant) Precipitation on the pond is 260 mm/year, and the annual evaporation is estimated to be 105 inches/year. The pond will be lined with concrete to prevent any drainage from the bottom .Using a water balance what volume on average of ground water must be added to take each year to keep the pound at constant level? Draw scematic of the problem to identify the control volume and relevent fluxes. Clearly write out or define your water balance equation and varibles along with any assumptions you make.

Amass of m 1.5 kg of steam is contained in a closed rigid container. initially the pressure and temperature of the steam are: p 1.5 mpa and t 240ยฐc (superheated state), respectively. then the temperature drops to t2= 100ยฐc as the result of heat transfer to the surroundings. determine: a) quality of the steam at the end of the process, b) heat transfer with the surroundings. for: p1.5 mpa and t 240ยฐc: enthalpy of superheated vapour is 2900 kj/kg, specific volume of superheated vapour is 0. 1483 m/kg, while for t 100ยฐc: enthalpy of saturated liquid water is 419kj/kg, specific volume of saturated liquid water is 0.001043m/kg, enthalpy of saturated vapour is 2676 kj/kg, specific volume of saturated vapour is 1.672 m/kg and pressure is 0.1 mpa.
