A syringe pump is often used to pump small precise volumes of liquids. Imagine you are given a faulty syringe pump to use in the lab. The pump leaks at a rate of 15% whatever the flowrate out of the nozzle Qn. The syringe has a diameter (Ds) of 30 mm, a length of 120 mm and a nozzle diameter (Dn) of 3 mm. For your experiment, a nozzle flowrate of 1 milliliters/s is required. Answer the following questions: Required:
a. At what rate do you need to program the plunger velocity (Vp) to ensure you achieve the targeted flowrate (in mm/s)?
b. How long will you be able to maintain this flowrate (in min)?
