It is desired to flow water at 200C with an average speed of 0.04 m/s through a horizontal pipe with a diameter of 50 mm and a length of 1800 m. The pipe material is unknown and a visual inspection reveals corrosion on the inside walls of the pipe. 1. If possible, calculate the pressure drop in the pipe. If this is not possible, explain why.
2. Sketch the velocity profile you would expect in the pipe (speed vs radius)
3. Under the typical assumptions for pipe flow calculations, could any of the flow be considered irrotational? Explain
