The increase in pressure or volume will be maximized when the combustion is complete and when it occurs adiabatically with the theoretical amount of air. Consider the combustion of methyl alcohol vapor, CH3OH (g), with a stoichiometric amount of air in a 1.5 L combustion chamber. Initially, the mixture is at 25°C and 101 kPa.
