The top surface of a rectangular workpart is machined using a peripheral milling operation. The workpart is 750 mm long by 50 mm wide by 100 mm thick. The milling cutter, which is 70 mm in diameter and has five teeth, overhangs the width of the part equally on both sides. Cutting speed = 80 m/min, chip load = 0.35 mm/tooth, and depth of cut = 7.5 mm.

(a) Determine the time required to make one pass across the surface, given that the setup and machine settings provide an approach distance of 5 mm before actual cutting begins and an overtravel distance of 25 mm after actual cutting has finished.

(b) What is the maximum material removal rate during the cut?

At steady state, air at 200 kpa, 325 k, and mass flow rate of 0.5 kg/s enters an insulated duct having differing inlet and exit cross-sectional areas. the inlet cross-sectional area is 6 cm2. at the duct exit, the pressure of the air is 100 kpa and the velocity is 250 m/s. neglecting potential energy effects and modeling air as an 1.008 kj/kg k, determine ideal gas with constant cp = (a) the velocity of the air at the inlet, in m/s. (b) the temperature of the air at the exit, in k. (c) the exit cross-sectional area, in cm2
