You have been asked to evaluate worker exposure to benzene in a chemical processing facility. You would like to use a passive / diffusive sampler since you find the advantages of this approach very appealing. You have obtained the sampling rates for the specific brand of monitor that your company uses (see attached page) and have looked up the sampling rate for benzene based on the Full NIOSH validation (research report 1312) a. Assuming that you would like to be able to detect an airborne concentration equal to 1/10th of the current OSHA PEL for benzene, what is the minimum amount of time that you would need to place the monitor on the worker?b. Would you be able to use this monitor to evaluate exposure based on the OSHA STEL (15 min TWA) for benzene - explain/ support your answer with calculations c What are the advantages and disadvantages of diffusive samplers for workplace exposure monitoring?
