Write a matlab finite element program which computes the rotational displacement response θ (x, t) of a uniform bar (0 ≤ x ≤ lo) to a suddenly applied torque (t) applied at the right hand end (x=lo). the left hand end of the bar (x= 0) is fixed. assume that the bar has the following properties: the length (lo) is 2, shear modulus (g) is 100, the polar moment of inertia (j) is 1, and the mass polar moment of inertia per unit length (i) is 1. take the magnitude of the applied torque to be1. initial conditions are zero (the bar is initially at rest). use 50 finite elements to model the bar. plot the displacement and velocity of the right hand end (x = lo)and the midpoint (x= 0.5lo) of the bar versus time (t), over the interval 0 ≤ t ≤1(submit a total of four plots). on the displacement plots show the static solution asa dashed line, and note that the maximum displacements (and hence the stresses)are double those obtained from a static analysis. your velocity plots should clearly show that the material sound speed (cs), where c2s = g/rho and rho= 1, determines the arrival times for elastic waves propagating in the bar (and generated by the impact loading). code development work will be conducted in the class lecture.
