Explanation:

-Enter the terminal in the linux environment and use the ifconfig eth0 or -a to bring up the main network interface and other network interfaces.

- for static network configuration, use;

  - ifconfig eth0 10.254.1.42  

  - ifconfig eth0 netmask 255.255.0.0

  - ifconfig eth0 broadcast 10.254.255.255

- and add a default gateway with;

 -  route add default gw 10.254.0.1  eth0.

- Now verify the settings with the ifconfig eth0 command.

it most likely is charging, however when using a hot spot, it drains straight through battery life.
