I would ask the following questions: One, how regularly employees interact with each other, or how small/large the business is. Two, how much money she wants to spend on her networking. Third, how secure she needs/wants the data to be.

The answers to these questions will help me determine what network she needs. In this case, I would recommend a P2P network over a client-server network.

A peer-to-peer network can support up to 10 clients (workstations) before suffering performance and management problems. This means that the P2P network is ideal for small, starting businesses such as Kayla's where everyone is communicating with each other on a daily basis.

How Kayla's answer to the second question will also affect my recommendation. Since Kayla is just starting a business, she would need to make sure she has enough funds to keep her business running properly. I would recommend using a P2P network. This is because client-server networks are so large, that it would take a lot of money to keep it running. Kayla would have to spend money to hire a qualified employee to manage the client-server network. Additionally, it already takes upward to a $1000 or more to buy a Windows NT server and a few client licenses. Extra security(optional) could cause Kayla to spend even more money.

The answer to the last question will affect my recommendation as well. Overall, the client-server network is a lot more secure. Although the client-server network is more secure it is still possible to secure the P2P network by adding passwords to things that are accessible and things that are not accessible by normal means. Since Kayla's business is new, there may not be many employees yet, so it would be okay to set up a P2P network.
