The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal agency in the United States that was established on April 28, 1971 to enforce the 1970 Federal Occupational Safety Act. It is intended to help reduce the number and consequences of accidents at work. The agency is subordinate to the United States Department of Labor.

To research working conditions, the law also created the creation of a National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC) to evaluate violations of the law.
