File services refer to the capability of a server to share data files, applications, and disk storage space. Common file sharing services are SMB (Server Message Bloc), which  is a network protocol used by Windows-based computers to share files within the same network, CIFS (Common Internet File System), which is a  filesystem protocol used for providing shared access to files and printers between machines on the network, FTP (File Transfer Protocol) , which is a protocol used for transfer of files between clients and servers over the Internet, AFP (Apple Filing Protocol), NFS (Network File System) etc.
