Aaliya knows that sliced apples turn brown when left out in the open air. she also knows that pouring certain liquids on then will keep this from happening. aaliya thinks that water, ginger ale, or lemon juice may do the trick. how could aaliya set up an experiment to find out which one will work. what are the variables? what will she use as a control?

An apple should be cut into 4 equal pieces, then put each slice in a separate container and label accordingly with letters A, B, C, and Control. Put water, ginger ale, and lemon juice into containers A, B, and C respectively but leave the Control untouched. Observe which of the slices in containers A, B, C will stay the same color after the one in control turns brown, if the slice maintains its color then the liquid added prevents an apple slice from browning. The variables are the liquids added and the control is the slice that did not have anything added to it.

momentum before collision = momentum after collision

momentum p (kg-m/s)= mass * velocity

say moving car=1 000 kg, velocity = 10 m/s then p = 1 000*10= 10 000 kg-m/s

say still car = 2 000 kg, velocity = 0 m/s then p = 2 000* 0 = 0 kg-m/s

total momentum prior to collision = 10 000 + 0 = 10 000 kg-m/s

momentum after collision = 10 000 kg-m/s

mass now = 1 000 kg+2 000 kg = 3 000 kg

10 000 = 3 000 kg* velocity m/s

10 000/3 000 = velocity

3.33 m/s = velocity after collision
