Straining or filtering is a method to separate bigger things using a smaller hole to filter it. In picture B and F, the spaghetti and tea leaves are separated from water by using a filter with a smaller hole than the spaghetti or tea leaves. The filter for spaghetti won't works for tea leaves as the filter hole is bigger than tea leaves. The same principle work with filter paper on picture C. The paper also has holes, but it too small for you to see.

Straining is the separation process in which the particles are separated on the basis of size with the help of a filter. The filter will set the cut-off value and the particles are separated.

In Figure B with the help of a strainer, the water from the spaghetti is removed. So figure B possesses straining.

In figure F the tea leaves are separated from the tea with a strainer. Thus Figure F also depicts the straining technique.

The use of filter paper is made to differentiate the particles of very small size. In figure C, filter paper is used to separate the solute in the solution.
