Will the chemical qualities in the procedure produce a solution that is 0.500 M NaOH (aq)? Explain your reasoning.
In order to prepare the 0.500 M solution of NaOH (aq), the student follows a procedure with the following steps.
Step 1: Measure out 20.0 g of NaOH (s)
Step 2: Add the NaOH (s) to a clean, dry 1000.0 mL volumetric flask.
Step 3: Add about 500 mL of distilled water to the flask, and swirl to dissolve the NaOH (s).
Step 4: Add enough distilled water to bring the mixture to the line on the volumetric flask, inverting several times to mix.
