Phosphorus is directly under nitrogen in the periodic table and forms a compound similar to that of ammonia. The compound has the empirical formula PH3 and it is called phosphine. It can be prepared by the reaction: P(s) + 3NaOH(aq) + 3H20 (l) PH3(g) +3NaH2
If 0.610 g of phosphorus and 0.250 g of NaOH are reacted with H2O() in excess, how many grams of phosphine will be obtained?
