Answer the following question about this stoichiometry problem. Aluminum metal reacts with aqueous nickel(II) sulfate to produce aqueous aluminum sulfate and
nickel as a precipitate. In this reaction, 108 grams of aluminum were combined with 464 grams of
nickel(II) sulfate to produce 274 grams of aluminum sulfate.
Given: 108 g Al; 464 g Niso,; 274 g A1, (SO.),
MAL = 26.9815 g/mol Maiso, = 154.756 g/mol
Al2(SO4)3 = 342.151 g/mol
Find: the limiting reactant, theoretical yield, and percentage yield
Plan: Next use mass-mole and mole-mole conversions of
the two reactants to find the limiting reactant. Then use a mass-mole, mole-mole, and
mole-mass conversion to determine the theoretical yleld. Last, calculate the percentage
yield.
Select the balanced equation for this chemical reaction.
2Al(s)+ NISO (aq) - Al2(SO4)3(aq)+3Ni(s)
