To start one difference between the two is that a scientific experiment is meant to be repeated and to be formed into a theory and/or a scientific law. Scientific experiments also use different types of data, for instance, you could be recording how much a plant grows in a month, in an experiment you would focus on the types of soil being used. In an investigation you would observe how tall the plant actually grew.

You would be correct, boiling water does disinfect contamination.    the property of disinfecting means to kill  germs, bacteria and other pathogens or contamination  that might cause an infection or cause a person to become sickly. a couple methods of disinfecting are using soap, other cleaning supplies or by simply "boiling" the contaminate.  the reason why boiling water disinfects certain attributes is because some cells cannot survive the heat and pressure.
