Calculate the pH of a solution that is prepared by dissolving 0.510 mol of hypochlorous acid (HClO, Ka = 3.00×10-8) and 0.233 mol of chloroacetic acid (CH2ClCOOH, Ka = 1.40×10-3) in water and diluting to 3.00 L. Also, calculate the equilibrium concentrations of HClO, ClO-, CH2ClCOOH, and CH2ClCOO-. Do not make an approximation unless the initial acid concentration is greater than 1000 × Ka. (Hint: The pH will be determined by the stronger acid of this pair.)
